FrootVPN - Full Review
Being connected to the internet has a lot of perks, no doubt about that. Whether you spend most of your time browsing social media channels, reading the news, or gaming, having an internet connection has become more of a necessity than a luxury.
There’s a catch, though; your presence on the web can make you vulnerable to identity exposure and cyberattacks. It’s a price that we all have to pay, but luckily, you can work around this problem by using a VPN service like FrootVPN.
In this FrootVPN review, we’re going to shed light on some of its benefits and whether you should rely on it to protect your data, so stick around.
Security
Security is the number one reason why many people opt for a VPN service in the first place. A VPN with weak security is as good as none.
FrootVPN utilizes 2048-bit encryption, which isn’t as sophisticated as 4096-bit encryption but is definitely enough for most people.
What’s more, FrootVPN comes with a kill switch that lets you automatically disconnect your computer when the server is down. However, the kill switch may not always work as expected.
Privacy
If you’re concerned about your privacy, worry not because FrootVPN has a strict no-log policy. It may track some data and metrics like connection timestamp, connection duration, IP addresses, DNS requests, and locations and servers you get connected to, but these are all ok since they don’t contain any sensitive data about your activity or identity.
There’s one thing that you need to keep in mind, though, which is that FrootVPN has never released a warrant canary.
Servers
Currently, FrootVPN has over 150 servers in more than 32 locations around the globe. This isn’t a huge number, but almost all servers let you establish a reliable connection that rarely encounters any hiccups, which matters the most. After all, quality is always better than quantity.
Streaming and Gaming
When it comes to streaming performance, FrootVPN has shown mixed results. The good news is that it’s capable of unblocking Netflix. However, we failed to unblock most of the other popular streaming services like BBC iPlayer, Amazon Prime, and Disney+. So, if Netflix isn’t your cup of tea, chances are you won’t like FrootVPN that much.
As for gaming performance, things got much better. FrootVPN can provide a reliable and fast internet connection that lets you enjoy your favorite online or multiplayer games without having to deal with lag.
Protocols
FrootVPN supports a handful of protocols, including OpenVPN TCP/ UDP, PPTP, and L2TP. However, it doesn’t support WireGuard, a modern protocol that many VPN services have started adopting.
Torrenting
One of the best things about FrootVPN is that P2P connections are supported over all the servers, allowing you to download and seed torrents safely and efficiently. The speeds are pretty decent, too, with an average download speed of 50Mbps.
Customer Support
Customer support isn’t FrootVPN’s strongest point. The company provides live chat and email support round the clock. However, expect to wait a while before you get an answer to your query.
We’d recommend that you check the website’s FAQs database instead of trying to reach out to a customer service representative if you need to get things moving quickly.
Subscription Plans
Currently, FrootVPN offers 3 subscription plans: monthly, annual, and bi-annual. The monthly plan starts at $12.25, while the annual and bi-annual plans are priced at $4.08/month and $3.05/month, respectively. All of the plans let you connect up to 5 devices simultaneously.
Compared to other VPN services, the prices are pretty reasonable for what you get. We still recommend that you try it out for 1 month before committing long-term, just to be on the safe side.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Affordable plans
- Good connection speeds
- Sleek, beginner-friendly user interface
- Can unblock Netflix
- Up to 5 simultaneous connections
Cons
- Limited number of servers
- Can’t unblock several streaming services like Amazon Prime and Disney+
- No warrant canary
Verdict
To recap, FrootVPN is definitely an excellent VPN service for the price it’s offered at. While it lacks a few features, the essentials are here, and for most users, they’d be enough to browse the web safely and privately.
We especially like the fact that it has a decent connection speed. There’s nothing worse than getting your internet speed compromised when using a VPN service. Netflix support is a welcome bonus, too.
